Leadership in an increasingly interconnected world is the subject of the latest City of Newport Business Club networking event of its 2022 season.

Experts in network leadership Mike Peckham and Dr James Whitehead will be the guest speakers at the event at the Coldra Court Hotel on Thursday, September 22.

Mike and James head up Chepstow-based PSA Training & Consulting, whose clients include Virgin Money, Pobl and the National Trust.

They work with the private, public and third sectors to identify ‘network leaders’ – people who get things done through their ability to understand how networks of individuals connect on the ground and how to bring together people in just the right constellation of effort.

Mike Peckham is a long-standing company and non-executive director, and coach to executives and teams. He describes his work as being able to get the ‘right conversation in the room at the right time’.  He has provided consultancy support and specialist advice to a range of blue-chip clients including De Beers Diamonds, Starbucks, BSB Sky,  and EDF.

He is a Visiting Fellow at the Business School of the University of South Wales. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and the Royal Society of Arts and a member of the Royal United Services Institute and has lectured at the MoD’s Defence Academy, Shrivenham.

Dr James Whitehead has been an army officer and business consultant and is now a senior lecturer in strategic management at Cardiff Metropolitan University. His teaching focuses on strategy, creativity and leadership/management development. His principal research interest is leadership, particularly from the perspective of leader’s biographies and their unique experience of leadership.

Mike and James are co-authors of the book Network Leadership: Navigating and Shaping Our Interconnected World.

City of Newport Business Club chairman Professor Jonathan Deacon said:

“I’ve been aware for some time of the work Mike and James have been doing and it is fascinating.”

“I’m sure they will provide a really interesting and thought-provoking insight into the way leadership has changed in the 21st century.”

The City of Newport Business Club event starts at 5.30pm. Tickets for the event, which includes a two-course meal, are priced at £20 and can be booked HERE
