Families in Tintern are benefiting from three new affordable homes built by Monmouthshire Housing Association (MHA).

Part funded through the Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grant and Housing Finance Grant, these two and three bedroom homes are the first affordable homes to be built in the area.

Completed in early April, the development has made a real impact on the lives of those families who now call these properties home.

Two of the new resident’s, sisters Sarah and Sally Ball and their two young children faced having to leave Tintern, where they had grown up, because of the lack of affordable housing.

Sarah Ball said:

“I can’t believe it’s happened and we get to live here, I just feel so lucky. Both my sister and I wanted our children to grow up in Tintern and go to the same school we did and now they can”.

“It definitely feels like we have hit the jackpot, these homes from MHA have completely changed our lives for the better”.

Sally Ball said:

“It is a luxury to grow up in Tintern but I would never have been able to afford a house here. People want to stay in the area so there is definitely a need for more affordable housing for people”.

MHA Development Surveyor Katie Knill said:

“It is fantastic to work on projects where you are making a real difference to the lives of those tenants moving into the properties and that is so needed by the local community”.

“These home have been my first development for MHA and I am so proud of all the work both MHA and the contractors have done to ensure high quality homes.

Rural Housing Enabler David James said

“It has been a pleasure to have played a part in the development of the new affordable housing in Tintern”.

“The Community Council has been a real credit to getting the project completed and they really understood what a difference affordable housing would make for the local people and village. County councillor Anne Webb was also very supportive of the project from the outset”.
