Cardiff’s only five star hotel, The St. David’s Hotel, has announced the appointment of a brand new General Manager as it looks forward to the imminent launch of its newly refurbished waterfront bar and restaurant.
Russell Durnell takes on the position of General Manager at the iconic Cardiff Bay venue, with a wealth of experience spanning over 25 years in the hospitality industry. Originally from Bristol, Russell has previously worked at prestigious hotels across the globe including London’s The Savoy, Jumeriah Group, the Palazzo Versace in Australia, and The Langham.
Speaking following his appointment, Russell commented:
“I’m thrilled to have joined The St. David’s team and am looking forward to bringing my experience from Australia and around the world in as we move forward with exciting new plans and ideas for the hotel!”
Russell is already playing a pivotal role at The St David’s Hotel as he leads the top-to-toe refurbishment of the restaurant and bar and a brand new dining concept, which will be revealed in the upcoming weeks.
“Cardiff is growing at great pace at the moment, and we will be bringing in innovative experiences to make sure the hotel continues to lead the hotel market and evolves side-by-side with the city.”
Nicola Edmunds, Director or Revenue and Sales at The St. David’s Hotel, said:
“We are delighted to welcome Russell to Cardiff. He brings extensive knowledge and experience from esteemed hotels across the world, and his energy and enthusiasm are already proving a great asset to the team.”
With its glass-fronted façade, private balconies, floor-to-ceiling windows, and coastal setting, The St David’s Hotel has become a luxury retreat for local guests and a popular destination for international travellers and celebrities visiting the Welsh capital.
No stranger to high profile guests, Russell was General Manager at the Palazzo Versace for over four years where he welcomed contestants from the hit TV show; I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here.
As well as the soon-to-be revealed waterfront restaurant and bar, the hotel boasts 142 lavish bedrooms and its multi-award winning Marine Spa which is often voted one of 15 top spas in the UK by Conde Nast.
