The Welsh business awards calendar has a new entry following the launch of a new set of awards in Newport.

The South Wales Argus Business Awards, organised by the Newport-based daily newspaper and website, were launched at the city’s Riverfront Theatre.

The awards’ headline sponsor is the Newport Now Business Improvement District. BID members and other sponsors joined local businesses and Newport councillors at the official launch of the awards.

Newport Now’s manager Kevin Ward told the meeting that the BID had felt for some time that Newport lacked its own business awards so it was an easy decision to sponsor the event.

Two categories in the awards are only open to BID Levy payers – Best BID Independent of the Year and Best BID National of the Year.

Other sponsors include Western Power Distribution, Newport City Council, MHA Broomfield Alexander, Kymin, and Monmouthshire Building Society.

The launch event, which featured Andrea Callanan, of Inspire Me, as the main speaker, was hosted by South Wales Argus Managing Director Hussain Bayoomi and Business Editor Jo Barnes.

The South Wales Argus Business Awards take place on September 27 at the Newport Centre.

To enter the awards, visit www.southwalesargus.co.uk/awards/business – all entries must be in by July 20.

Sponsorship packages and tickets are available from Matt Berry on 01633 777043 or Samantha Taylor on 01633 777147.
