The new STAR Hub opens on Monday.
The wait for the new £6m community and leisure facility in the south of the city is almost over and STAR hub opened its doors to the public on September 26.
Located at Splott Park, the new hub has a 25m swimming pool, a gym and fitness suite, a new library and multi-use community/leisure rooms and a community cafe. Advice services and training rooms are available at the hub.
The building has been constructed to the latest standards of energy efficiency, including solar thermal panels to reduce heating costs.
Cabinet Member for Community Development, Co-operatives and Social Enterprise, Cllr Peter Bradbury, said:
“I’m so pleased that the communities of Splott, Tremorfa Adamsdown and Roath are finally going to get to see inside this amazing new building which is going to be such an asset for the area.
“We’ve delivered a new pool for the community and a large gym space with the latest state-of-the art equipment, while I’m sure the hub services will be extremely popular and well-used as they are in other parts of the city.
“This is a really innovative facility, our first purpose-built hub, and we hope that by bringing services together in this way we can make a real difference to people in the area, making it easier for them to engage with us and use our services.
“I hope people in the area are as impressed by this new hub as I am.”
Investment is also being made to the sports hall at Willows High School this autumn, which will be available for community use outside of school hours.
