One of Britain’s smallest distilleries has been recognised in the Great British Food Awards 2017 for the best gin produced in the United Kingdom.
Dyfi Distillery, based at Corris Craft Centre, near Machynlleth, collected the prestigious award for its Pollination Gin, which the judges described as “seriously beautiful”.
Pollination Gin is one of the few gins in the world produced from mostly foraged botanical ingredients. In this distillery’s case, the ingredients are gathered within the Dyfi Valley UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.
Dyfi Distillery has already won The Independent’s IndyBest Award for the Best New Gin in 2017 for its Hibernation Gin and no less than seven medals at this year’s International Wine and Spirit Competition.
Brothers Pete and Danny Cameron established the first commercial distillery in Mid Wales in 2016. Pete has lived, worked and foraged in the Dyfi Valley for 35 years, while Danny is a long-standing drinks industry professional and international-standard judge.
“It’s been quite a year,” said Danny. “We’ve been so busy trying to keep up with demand that we haven’t really had a chance to take this all in.”
Dyfi Distillery is one of nine studios at the Corris Craft Centre which are open to curious visitors every day between 10am and 5pm until November 5, followed by reduced hours until Christmas. For more information visit the website at www.dyfidistillery.com.
