Cardiff Met-Marketers Make their Mark at National Awards

A team of students from Cardiff Metropolitan University are celebrating after impressing a panel of the UK leading marketers.

Chris Djiallis, Neirin Millard and Joseph Anderson, who call themselves the Met-Marketers are in the top three of the CIM’s prestigious student marketing competition ‘The Pitch 2016’. The CIM Pitch 2016 is a UK-wide marketing competition for students, designed to recognise and reward marketing talent of the future.

The Met-Marketers were competing against some of the country’s top creative talents. After receiving a detailed brief from the convenience food company Rustlers’, students were asked to prepare a marketing plan to overcome negative product taste perception and encourage people to believe in Rustlers’ products and to try them for the first time. Their impressive marketing plan targeted 18 to 24 year-olds with a mobile phone game available accessed via an augmented reality app. This was followed by a tense round of pitches against the top-20 teams in the UK before making the top-three.

The team enjoyed success against other Welsh universities and have now established themselves as the no. 1 team in Wales having beaten other Welsh Universities including Cardiff and University of Wales Trinity St David’s. #AlreadyBestInWales, The Met-Marketers now head to London on April 14th to see if they have won the coveted UK award. The winning prize includes a £3,000 cash prize and a one-year membership of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Head of Department for Marketing and Strategy at Cardiff Met, Dr Paula Kearns said:

“The Pitch is designed to give students a real understanding of the process of interpreting a brief, planning and pitching to client in order to winner business. At Cardiff Met we have developed a centre of marketing excellence and this latest achievement by three of our final year students is another important stepping stone.

“On behalf of everyone in the Marketing department, I would like to congratulate these students for their efforts so far and wish them all the very best for the finals in London.”

“Taking part in the Pitch has been brilliant. The experience will certainly be a great addition to my CV and will hopefully help in getting my first job in marketing.”
