Businesses are being invited to a free Rhondda Cynon Taf Council event providing the information and support they need to develop and take advantage of millions of pounds of public sector contracts.

Meet the Buyer RCT is now in its ninth year and continues to go from strength to strength, welcoming representatives from 167 organisations last year.

It will take place from 10am to 3pm on Friday, March 3 at Llantrisant Leisure Centre. It is an open access event so all are welcome, but pre-registration is recommended.

For the first time, the main Meet the Buyer RCT event will also be followed-up with smaller outreach sessions, one in the Valleys Innovation Centre, Abercynon on March 9 and on March 14 at Rhondda Sports Centre in Ystrad  – more details on these to follow soon.

It is organised by the Council’s Procurement Team, which coordinates the authority’s purchases and contracts – from who supplies the bread for meals in care homes to who will build multi-million-pound schools and roads.

The event gives businesses the chance to meet the team, find out more about what they do and, importantly, how they can help businesses prepare themselves to make successful bids for contracts.

Cllr Mark Norris, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Frontline Services, said:

“We are committed to providing support for businesses because of the importance they hold for the local economy and jobs market.

“Meet the Buyer is now in its ninth year and continues to go from strength to strength. It’s a free event and a great way for local businesses to find out how they can work with our procurement team and other businesses to make full use of the opportunities presented to them.

“Contracts worth hundreds of millions of pounds a year, from goods supply to cleaning, construction and more are on offer and we want local businesses – and the local people who work for them – to be in a position to be able to bid successfully for those tenders.”

Also at the event will be a range of local and national companies, including Network Rail, Trivallis and the National Procurement Service, all of which commission millions of pounds of services each year.

These companies will be able to provide information on what they offer, the services they need and the opportunities these present to local businesses and providers.

Business support is also a key element of Meet the Buyer RCT and there will be experts, including the Council’s Enterprise Team, Business Wales and Construction Future Wales will be on hand at the event to provide information on useful services such as funding, start-up assistance, company health checks and introducing apprentices and work placements to add to your business.
