Leading Welsh Restaurant Brand Expands Into Bristol

The family behind the award-winning Bar 44 Tapas bars are going back to their roots, launching their unique take on modern Spanish dining in Bristol. This is the first venture outside of Wales for the team behind Bar 44 and Asador 44 since they opened their first restaurant in Cowbridge sixteen years ago.

Adding to the hugely vibrant mix of food and drink experiences in the city, Bar 44 Bristol is the brainchild of Tom Owen and Natalie Morgan. The siblings established their first Bar 44 sixteen years ago and have been at the forefront of the modern Spanish dining revolution in the UK ever since.

Bar 44 boasts a combination of seasonal dishes, made with some of the finest ingredients from both Spain and the UK. In addition, a 100% Spanish drinks list, featuring rare sherries, Gin Tonicas, bespoke Spanish cocktails and interesting wines from all corners of Spain.

After a wide-ranging search for the right location and property, they fell in love with a fantastic vacant restaurant on Regent Street in Clifton Village.

Tom said:

“We all spent our formative years here in Bristol and have always wanted to bring our version of modern Spanish hospitality to the city. I’m so excited about the space we have inherited.  After a complete redesign, we will open in July and I can already picture a busy, bustling tapas bar which will hopefully become a real hub of the community.”

Owen is one of a handful of sherry educators in the UK and a leading authority on this most versatile of wines. He was also most recently named Imbibe Magazine Restaurant Personality of the Year 2018.

Owen said:

“I cannot wait to launch our extensive sherry wine list in Bristol, traditionally the home of sherry outside Spain. Bristol is the perfect place to continue driving the renaissance of this much-misunderstood drink to new and old customers alike
