Increasing Demand for Short Cycling Holidays in Mid Wales

Wheely Wonderful Cycling has welcomed twice as many overseas visitors for cycling holidays in Mid Wales and the bordering English counties of Shropshire and Herefordshire compared with the same period last year.

Forty per cent of all the company’s holiday customers come from overseas and there is a big increase in the number opting to use electric bikes on their holidays. Most of the overseas bookings are from English speaking countries including the USA, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

“Is this due to Brexit?” surmised Chris Dartnell, who runs Wheely Wonderful Cycling with his wife, Kay. “The good exchange rate for our overseas customers and our easy to use website means that they are happy to book, although they seem less keen to commit to a longer cycling holiday than in previous years, instead opting for short breaks.”

Kay adds:

“Our customers are keen to book electric bikes for their holiday. Electric bikes are a great option, as they always put a smile on your face when you are cycling and you need never be left behind again!

“They can be used on any of our easy/moderate cycle tours and are a great benefit to any keen cyclist who wants to encourage a non-cycling friend to come on a cycling holiday.”

Wheely Wonderful Cycling has electric bike options at its base near Presteigne for cycling short breaks in Wales and on longer cycle tours through the Brecon Beacons and the Elan Valley on the Lon Las Cymru, the Welsh National Cycle Route.

Cyclists can start any day they wish and the holiday price includes all accommodation, route guides, luggage transportation, quality bikes and equipment and Wheely Wonderful Cycling’s award-winning back-up service.

“Wales is a fantastic place for a cycling holiday,” said Chris. “We've always really enjoyed cycling through Mid Wales. There are lots of trout streams to stop by and, of course, breathtaking views to the Brecon Beacons, Radnorshire hills and Cader Idris on the Welsh coast.

“The Lon Las Cymru (Welsh National Cycle Route) is a signed cycle route through the whole of Wales and passes through spectacularly beautiful countryside.”

The company offers a range of 40 different cycling holidays across the UK, including the famous Ironbridge Gorge in Shropshire and the Wye Valley in Herefordshire. Walking holidays are also provided along the Mortimer Trail and Wild Edric’s Way.

Wheely Wonderful Cycling is a member of MWT Cymru, an independent organisation that represents 600 tourism and hospitality businesses across Powys, Ceredigion, Meirionnydd and the English border.
