Top 100 law firm Hugh James is the only Welsh law firm of 17 UK law firms appointed to a four-year, £70m specialist housing legal services framework.
The Central Housing Investment Consortium (CHIC) is made up of 40 social housing providers responsible for around 250,000 homes in England and Wales. The framework will also be available to organisations managing a further 1 million homes via CHIC’s procurement partnerships, with legal services covering corporate, governance and finance, housing and asset management and property and development.
Hugh James is an established sector specialist, with a 30-strong dedicated social housing team already working with over 40 housing associations and local authorities.
According to Iwan Jenkins, one of its lead partners in the sector, the firm’s successful appointment is recognition of the strength of the various teams that work in the sector.
“Our appointment is recognition of the firm’s multi-disciplinary offer and proven track record in the sector, most particularly in housing management, property and construction and finance.
“We’re delighted to be appointed are looking forward to continuing our work with existing housing clients while building new relationships with housing associations and local authority housing departments who are on the framework.”
The new framework will be in place from 1st July 2016.
CHIC Managing Director John Fisher said:
“Legal spend for housing organisations is disaggregated so tends to be off the table when they look at cost versus value.
“By our members ‘buying together’ we can have compliant, competitive legal services which serve many, but without any compromise in the service levels or the quality of advice that our members would expect to receive.”
