With 2016 heralded as the ‘Year of Adventure’, Gwynedd Council is eager to ensure that local businesses can reap the benefits of the fact that the county is now an internationally recognised destination for adventure tourism.

The latest national figures show that tourism is continuing to grow in Gwynedd with 6,847,000 visitors and £975 million invested in the local economy in 2014.

As part of the Council’s efforts to support the county’s industry, Gwynedd’s Tourism, Marketing and Customer Care Service hosted a business workshsop at Dylan’s Restaurant in Criccieth.

The event was a great opportunity for tourism based business’ to network and for the Council to share information about the various schemes which are being developed and promoted – including 18 circular walks that have been developed by Gwynedd Council along the Wales Coast Path through funding received by the Big Lottery Coastal Communities Fund and the new Brailsford Way cycling routes part funded by the Welsh Government.

Councillor Mandy Williams-Davies, Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy said:

“Gwynedd is home to some of the best outdoor adventure facilities in the world and our fantastic mountains, coast, lakes and trails mean that we welcomed thousands of tourists to the county last year.

“By working with our partners, Gwynedd has developed to be a major international destination for adventure tourism with adrenaline seekers from near and far enjoying the ever popular Zipworld and Bounce Below attractions, mountain biking trails and the Wales Coast Path.

“Visit Wales has designated this the Year of Adventure, we are working to ensure that Gwynedd makes the most of the opportunities to boost employment in this important sector as well as encouraging more people to come and enjoy our attractions.”
