Denbighshire County Council has issued guidance for owners of empty properties in West Rhyl.

As part of its target to bring 500 empty properties back into use by 2022, owners of empty properties in a good structural state will not be asked to submit a planning application if they wish to convert the property into a single family dwelling.

This potential financial saving for empty property owners in West Rhyl includes free initial advice and guidance to ensure such refurbishment works proceed safely.

Cllr Tony Thomas, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, said:

“The Council is keen to reintroduce single family occupation to the empty properties in West Rhyl.

“This advice simplifies the process of bringing the area’s empty properties back into use. We would not therefore seek the submission of a planning application for restorations of empty residential properties to single family dwellings as long as certain criteria are met.

“The Council is looking to ensure there is sufficient housing to meet residents’ needs and we have a target to build 170 new council homes by 2022, ensuring more affordable houses are built in the county as well as bringing empty properties back into use.”
