The Welsh Sports Association (WSA), together with business telecommunications company, Croft Communications, has launched the ‘Grassroots Initiative’, designed to support local sporting communities across the UK by reinvesting valuable cash into local sports clubs.

In line with a gradual return to grassroot sports in Wales, the WSA is urging its members to sign-up to the scheme, providing additional funds to improve facilities, staff retention or even rescue clubs facing significant financial difficulties due to the pandemic.

The scheme enables clubs, members and businesses (including not-for-profits) who take out business telecommunications services with Croft, including fast connectivity solutions, business mobile phones, thermal imaging cameras, IT support and more, to reinvest a percentage of their spend into a local sports club of their choice.

On average, a club has the potential to receive over £thousands per year as a result of the investment. Initially, Croft are opening the scheme up to 200 clubs on a first-come, first-served basis. However, with over 5,500 sports clubs across Wales, there is long-term potential for this investment into Welsh grassroots-level sport to run into £millions.

Victoria Ward, Chief Executive of the Welsh Sports Association, said:

“I’m thrilled to announce Croft Communications as a WSA partner. In challenging times for our sector, we continue to work hard to enhance the resilience of our member organisations and associated clubs.  The Grassroots Initiative offers clubs the chance to generate additional funds which could be invaluable in helping community sport get back to full fitness. I urge all members and clubs to consider the initiative to save them money, generate much needed funds and to recognise the tangible benefits of their investment.”

Jon Poole, Director of Partnerships, Croft Communications, said:

“We’re delighted to partner with the Welsh Sports Association and launch our ‘Grassroots Initiative’ during a challenging time for sports clubs and their communities. Our scheme helps clubs generate much-needed extra income and hopefully will help to see grassroots-level sport flourish once again.”
