Distinctive food artist Nathan Wyburn and artisan café bar KIN+ILK are joining forces to host a five day art extravaganza at its popular Pontcanna venue in what promises to thrill coffee connoisseurs, foodie fans and art aficionados alike.
Welsh Fine Art graduate Nathan, renowned for his unique portraits of celebrities using food and household objects, will create four masterpieces a day from Monday 24 to Friday 28 April using ingredients from KIN+ILK’s delicious dishes and drinks while raising money and awareness for leading Welsh mental health charity, Gofal.
KIN+ILK has been supporting Gofal since it appointed PS Properties and Interiors, a social enterprise that reinvests its profits into Gofal, to fit-out its Capital Quarter Café Bar in January 2016, Pontcanna Café Bar in June 2016 and Capital Quarter 2 in November 2016.
Nathan too spends a great deal of time supporting numerous charities, including BulliesOut for which he is an ambassador. Speaking about linking up with Gofal, he said: “I think it’s important to support and talk about all mental health issues. I think creative people, like myself, can often feel tortured in our own heads and become our own worst enemies – whether that’s professionally or personally. Raising awareness and getting rid of that stigma behind the words ‘mental health’ is a must.”
Both Nathan and KIN+ILK have a unique and creative offering. Nathan continued: “I think KIN+ILK and I are a great partnership because they have a very modern, forward thinking approach to the business. I love creativity, obviously, and anything outside of the box – these guys have that down and this is going to be great fun!”
Alex Jenkins, director of KIN+ILK, said:
“When we set out we had a strong vision for KIN+ILK in that each of our venues would serve great coffee and locally-sourced food in a distinctively designed environment allowing our customers – or our ILK – to meet, eat, drink, connect and collaborate in calm and inspiring spaces.
“We’ve definitely achieved this, and people often comment about the unique décor and style of our cafes. Having Nathan come on board to showcase his artworks in our Cathedral Road branch and create some original pieces is very exciting.
“At the moment we’re keeping it under wraps who or what will feature in the pieces, but it could be a ‘dukkah Derek Brockway’, a ‘cappuccino Katherine Jenkins’ or a ‘granola Gareth Thomas’! We have, however, decided, following Prince Harry opening up about his own mental health struggles, we would like to dedicate one piece to him.”
Nathan will base himself at KIN+ILK in Pontcanna between 8am and 6pm during the week commencing 24 April. The event will culminate on the Friday with a raffle and the opportunity to purchase the creations with proceeds being donated to Gofal.
