Finance Wales Appoints Giles Thorley as New Chief Executive


Giles Thorley has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of the Finance Wales Group.

GAT1Taking up his new post on 4th April 2016, Mr Thorley will lead Finance Wales as plans to create the Development Bank for Wales are implemented.

Mr Thorley joins Finance Wales from leading private equity company, TDR Capital where he has been a partner since 2010. Prior to joining TDR Capital, he spent nine years at Punch Taverns, first as Executive Chairman and then Chief Executive. He was also a founding member of the Principal Finance Group.

In his successful twenty-year career Mr Thorley has gained significant senior management and private-equity investment experience. He is also a successful business angel.

Commenting on his appointment Giles Thorley said:

The role requires experience, expertise and vision to drive forward the recommendations of the Access to Finance Review and ensure that micro, small and medium-sized businesses have the financial backing and support they need to succeed.”

A qualified barrister, Mr Thorley holds a law degree from the University of London and is a member of the Bar Council of England and Wales. He has also served as a board director of Tui Travel, Esporta, Tragus and Ducati.
