The finalists for the 2019 Wales Legal Awards that represent the best of the Welsh legal sector have been announced today.

The inaugural event – which will take place at the Mercure Holland House Hotel in Cardiff on Friday, May 17th 2019 – will feature a total of fifty finalists from 38 different legal businesses across Wales.

Representing many of the best Welsh legal firms, teams will be competing for awards in 16 different categories including criminal law, conveyancing, corporate and commercial, litigation and employment. There will also be a special honour on the evening for the outstanding contribution to the Welsh legal profession.

Charlotte Leyshon of Lux Family Law, and the founder of the awards, said that she was delighted at the response to the first awards for the legal profession in Wales.

“The quality of entries has been exceptional and I am thrilled to see such a positive response from all over Wales and we look forward to celebrating the achievements of the legal profession in this country.

“We have put together a fantastic panel of independent judges from a range of organisations including the Legal 500 and Thompson Reuters/Practical Law as well as presidents of the Law Society, a counsel from a leading London set of Chambers, in-house legal counsel from international film and investment house Great Point Media, and several solicitors practising across various sectors outside of Wales”.

A number of organisations have already sponsored the awards including Yolk Recruitment, LegalinX, Grant Stephens Family Law, Bartholomew Hawkins, SLD Wealth, 30 Park Place, Admiral Law, Linenhall Chambers and DAC Beachcroft

Dale Williams, founder of Yolk Recruitment, overall sponsors for the awards, said

“The legal sector in Wales is as exciting as any of its comparable professional services counterparts. There has been a significant boost in the last few years and we’re seeing no signs of this slowing down.

“As a leading recruiter for the sector, Yolk is excited at highlighting the people and businesses representing this most exciting of landscapes. These awards will do just that and we’re proud to be able to support such a needed and deserved platform to showcase the best of the best within Wales”.
