Solar Energy for Manufacturing – The Benefits and Barriers
As current gas and electricity prices are set to continue their vertiginous climb for the next 12 to 14 months, putting manufacturers under unprecedented financial pressure, becoming more energy efficient and as energy independent as possible is now an obvious solution to reduce costs – at least partly. And although a solar power installation will require in many cases upfront investment the good news is that the pay-back time has shrunk as fast as Grid prices have increased. Moreover, the added benefit is that it will help industry progress with its decarbonisation.
Make UK’s recently published ‘Decarbonisation manufacturing: challenges and opportunities’ report highlights that opportunities for electrification are particularly under-exploited as less than 7% of manufacturing businesses use renewable energy sources (solar, wind, hydrological, geothermal, wood, biofuels, biowaste) as the primary source of energy for their processes and operations, but half (50%) of manufacturers have confirmed that they could use them not only for their space heating but also for their industrial heating processes.
But there are still some barriers to installing solar PV on-site generation, some very real and some perceived. This webinar will provide insights on the potential for solar energy generation, solutions to some of the challenges, whether you own your building or not.
Make UK will be joined by:
William Bridgman, from Make UK member Warren Services Ltd. The business owns the properties and William will outline the process, barriers, benefits, opportunities, additional income stream and why turning to solar is relevant to high energy users as well.
Dan Hulme, from Make UK Advantage Partner Inspired Energy. Dan will walk delegates through the process of becoming a renewable generating business (from design through to install including timescales, considerations, hurdles and financing options).
Alastair Morris, from Make UK member Powerstar. Alastair will cover how battery storage can be used to maximise the benefits of a solar installation while also providing additional benefits to a manufacturing site.
The panel will also discuss some of the barriers and how to overcome those for leased/ rented properties.
Opportunities for questions throughout the session.
Attend this event to understand… why solar energy is relevant to manufacturers (including energy intensive manufacturers), how to overcome some of the barriers and what the return on investment is.
