Event to Share Expertise in Reuse and Repair to Take Place in the Welsh Capital

SUEZ recycling and recovery UK is partnering with Fixfest UK 2023, a community repair event organised by The Restart Project and Repair Cafe Wales in collaboration with the Community Repair Network.

This year’s event is set to take place on Saturday, 30 September 2023 in Cardiff.

Open to all those involved in community repair across the UK, Fixfest UK 2023 will bring together key stakeholders within the community repair sector, fostering links and partnership opportunities and encouraging a collective drive towards a circular economy.

The partnership will see SUEZ become the lead sponsor of Fixfest UK 2023. The company is working with the Fixfest organising team to bring together repair communities from across the UK and share its expertise in reuse and repair in the most beneficial way for attendees on the day.

As one of the largest waste management companies in the UK, SUEZ has been committed to supporting the UK’s transition from a throwaway culture to a circular and sustainable economy. Since October 2022, SUEZ has launched a series of re-use and repair guides to support and empower local authorities and individuals in the transition to reuse and repair. It also works with local authorities to help drive the circular economy through schemes such as the Manchester Renew Hub, run in partnership with GMCA, which sees hundreds of tonnes of pre-loved items given a new lease of life every year.

Attendees of Fixfest UK 2023 will be able to lead and join workshops, talks, and hands-on sessions focused on promoting the practice of reuse and repair at a community level. The four key themes of this year’s event include: strengthening the UK repair movement; the Right to Repair in the UK and beyond; repairing in our communities; and how to repair. Those interested in attending can register for tickets on the Fixfest website.

Sarah Ottaway, Sustainability and Social Value Lead SUEZ recycling and recovery UK, said:

“We are delighted to be partnering with The Restart Project, Repair Café Wales and the Community Repair Network and look forward to connecting with those across the community repair sector, whilst sharing our expertise and insights at this year’s Fixfest UK. The continued development of the circular economy has the potential to greatly benefit both the environment and the economy – if supported correctly, the re-use and repair sector can generate £63 million for the UK every year from 2028[1]. This collaboration is a demonstration of the importance SUEZ continues to place in fostering links between community groups and the commercial repair sector, which will be critical in our collective journey towards a more sustainable future.”

James Pickstone, Online Community Lead at The Restart Project, said:

“Fixfest UK is a fantastic opportunity for all of us involved in community repair to connect, share experiences and energise our movement. We’re delighted that SUEZ recycling and recovery UK have come on board to share their expertise and help us extend this opportunity to communities across the UK. With over 500 community repair groups all over the UK already reducing waste, teaching skills and strengthening communities, together we’re paving the way for a more sustainable, resilient and caring economy.”
