Ebbw Vale Glass Manufacturer Sees High-Tech Overhaul

The owners of Ebbw Vale’s Cwmtillery Glass Centre Ltd have taken their business to the next level by installing a fully automated sealed unit double glazing line and optimising the advanced manufacturing processes at its factory.

The glass manufacturing business employs around 130 people in the heart of the Ebbw Vale community. After securing financing of £862,000 from Lombard Asset Finance, Paul and Cerianne Hayward have installed a second brand new fully automated sealed unit double glazing line which enables the production of 850 double-glazed sealed units in just one eight-hour shift.  This, along with the first machine they installed last year, has increased productivity by more than 120 per cent, and has created demand for more employees.

Founded in 2000, Cwmtillery Glass specialises in the manufacture and installation of sealed units and roof glass, as well as decorative additions, and has grown year on year thanks to the high quality of its products.

The business’s impressive 54,000 sq. ft. factory is rooted in Ebbw Vale, which once housed Europe’s largest steelworks. The continuation of the region’s manufacturing legacy is a source of pride to the Haywards.

Paul, who is the company’s Director, said:

“Lombard has continually supported our business through investment that has allowed us to grow and drive efficiencies, whilst remaining competitive and retaining the high value service we provide our customers. This is the second glass cutting machine we’ve purchased with their assistance, and the new equipment has helped us to boost productivity significantly over the last year.”

Lombard Relationship Director David Wherry said: “Cwmtillery Glass’ continuing investment and upgrading of equipment is helping them to drive efficiencies and improve productivity. Lombard is pleased to be able to support the company with their growth plans.”

NatWest Relationship Director Adrian Coles first introduced his customer Cwmtillery Glass to the bank’s asset finance partner, Lombard, and has remained a supportive part of developments in the business.

He said:

“Cwmtillery Glass is an important employer in Ebbw Vale that prioritises innovation and quality.  We are proud to play a role in helping ensure the business continues its strong growth, and are confident that it will continue to play an important role here for many years to come.”
