Doorstep Caller Warning from Monmouthshire Trading Standards

SHARE
,

Monmouthshire Trading Standards team are asking residents to be vigilant and aware of bogus traders since receiving a number of complaints concerning unannounced doorstep callers operating across the county.

The incidents follow a similar pattern, the doorstep caller will tell the householder that they have found something wrong or they could help with some maintenance. This might include gutters that need clearing or replacing a broken roof tile. It may often be accompanied by a dramatic claim that damage could be caused if the work is not completed immediately.

This type of caller will continue to knock doors until they find someone who is more vulnerable. Please keep an eye out for neighbours who look like they may have been targeted.

Residents are encouraged to talk to a family member or someone they trust for their opinion as it has become clear that the work is not always necessary.

Chief Officer for Social Care and Health, Julie Boothroyd said:

“It is so important to be aware of what is happening in our communities. Doorstep callers can have a detrimental impact on everyone and even more so on our vulnerable residents. I urge anyone who suspects that a caller may not be all they seem to contact the police.”

It is important that bogus doorstep callers are reported to the police residents are urged to call 101.
