The deadline for Welsh internet domain sale is fast approaching. Up until the 30th November 2018, businesses can purchase .cymru or .wales domain names for as little as £1.

Many of Wales’ favourite brands are already using a Welsh domain name for both their website and email address, so your business will be in good company with a .cymru or .wales domain. Over 21,000 websites have been registered with Welsh internet domains to date.

S4C was amongst the first public bodies to use the names .cymru and .wales, matching its work as a pioneer for Wales on the web.

S4C’s Digital Manager, Huw Marshall, said:

“As a television channel that’s unique to Wales, S4C is an ambassador for Wales on the international stage, dealing with partners in other countries on major production projects.

“By using .wales and .cymru, we are able to raise awareness of Wales and Welsh”

However it is not just public bodies who are taking advantage of the Welsh domains. SMEs are also benefitting from switching to a .cymru or .wales domain. Nom Nom chocolate’s Liam Burgess was eager to adopt a domain name that reflected the company’s heritage:

“For us it’s really important that we show where we come from and it is a brilliant opportunity to communicate that we are from Wales and we’re really proud of being from Wales; everything that we do is to make a clear point of difference to other brands and services out there. And, we think .cymru is a really awesome way of telling half a story already without having to say anything.

“I would absolutely recommend that anybody making a product in Wales takes up a .cymru and .wales domain name. Within Wales we are naturally really good at collaborating with people and we’re getting much better. Online holds a really bright future for Wales and if we can have that identity and share that identity I think that’s going to be really positive for the future.”

Your business does not have to be Welsh-product focused to reap the rewards of a Welsh domain. Evans Pharmacy is one of Wales’ largest Welsh-based chain of pharmacies with 12 pharmacies spanning across all of South Wales from Newport to Tenby and they’re certainly proud of their Welsh roots.

Cameron Nazemi, Evans Pharmacy’s IT Manager, said:

“Our business is Welsh and proud and the domain helps us show how proud we are of our Welsh identity and where we were established. Our customers love that our web address is so patriotic and it’s made us more popular than our competitors locally; they want to support the local company with “wales” in its web address. We’re always growing and the .wales domain is now a great part of it.”

Time is running out to purchase your Welsh internet domain name for as little as £1. What are you waiting for?
