Showcasing the Best of Welsh Business

Cricket Wales Launch Business of Sport Programme

Whilst you would expect Cricket Wales to solely focus on sporting talent, the organisation are about so much more than that, this month getting involved in an initiative to combat the unemployment epidemic in Wales. Backing the Vi-Ability Programme, Cricket Wales join forces with Glamorgan Cricket to launch Vi-Ability’s unique and fully-funded Business of Sport programme. Taking the form of an 8-week course, 10 lucky young people will have the chance to gain business and employability skills, helping them to get back into education or find employment.

The participants will attend the newly-named Sophia Gardens Cardiff stadium for workshops and inspirational talks from guest speakers. Here, they will learn how sports clubs generate revenue, manage their costs and use different marketing techniques to reach supporters and customers.

Being an incredibly practical, hands-on course, Vi-Ability will also help those involved brush up on their interview techniques and build a CV that reflects their ability and skills. They will also have the chance to gain accreditations in First Aid and Sports Leadership, enhancing and adding to their chances of employment.

Adam Bull, CEO of Vi-Ability said:

“We’re delighted to be partnering with Glamorgan Cricket and Cricket Wales to deliver our award-winning programme at the fantastic Sophia Gardens Cardiff. The programme is an incredible opportunity for young people to learn about the business of sport with input from some of the most experienced organisations and people in Welsh Cricket. We look forward to welcoming our 10 lucky participants in June.”

Glamorgan Cricket Community and Development Manager, Mark Frost, commented:

“Partnering with Vi-Ability will allow us to extend our outreach work within the community and develop the workforce of the future. Strengthening our links with the community supports the development of the next generation of players, coaches and backroom staff who can take the game into new realms.”
