Monmouthshire County Council begins a new four-year contract with Monmouthshire Housing Association for the maintenance and support of over 250 sites across the county.

The council’s Grounds Maintenance Team will provide grass cutting, shrub maintenance, weed clearance and related grounds maintenance for an initial four-year period with options for two extensions of three years each. The potential 10-year contract is valued at £2.5 million.

Monmouthshire County Council has been providing the service to MHA since 2008 when the housing stock was transferred under a Service Level Agreement. The new contract will be a continuation of the excellent service the Grounds Team have carried out over the years and it brings with it a continued commitment to help communities prosper.

Along with the maintenance work, the council is also offering a wide range of support to help tenants develop community garden schemes and access apprenticeships and work experience across Monmouthshire’s Waste and Street services.

Following the tendering of a long term maintenance contract in 2018, MHA carried out an extensive consultation with their tenants. The contract reinforces the council’s commitment to its corporate objectives and the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act.

It also offers exciting digital transformation opportunities for grounds maintenance and the provides the council with the ability to offer transparent, real time service updates to customers as well as new performance management metrics to excellent customer service.

Councillor Jane Pratt, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services said:

“I’m delighted that Monmouthshire County Council will continue its excellent work in maintaining the grounds for MHA tenants. It’s fantastic that we can continue to offer a high standard of service to the communities we serve for years to come.”

Michele Morgan, Director of Housing and Communities said:

“MHA are pleased to continue working in partnership with MCC to provide a first class grounds maintenance service to our tenants and residents.  This new contract and service standards have been developed in conjunction with our tenants and will ensure that MHA’s communities continue to be fantastic places to live.”
