Monmouthshire County Council has published a report showing the progress made against its Corporate Plan during 2018/19.

The Corporate Plan sets out commitments that the council plans to deliver up until 2022. The report provides an update on progress and performance against the goals set to improve well-being in Monmouthshire and deliver its core purpose of building sustainable and resilient communities.

The achievements include:

  • Opening of the new school in Monmouth and the full refurbishment of Monmouth Leisure Centre.
  • Securing £1.25 million from the UK Government to encourage technology firms to develop solutions to loneliness and limited rural transport in our communities.
  • The launch of the Council’s chatbot, Monty, which is available on the website and Facebook messenger, and expands the ways in which residents can get in touch.

Following publication of the annual report, Councillor Paul Jordan, Cabinet Member for Governance, said,

“The report provides residents with information on how the council has performed in 2018/19.  Monmouthshire receives the lowest level of funding of any local authority in Wales; despite this, we have made much progress against many of the goals we set ourselves. Some of our goals have a longer-term focus so work is ongoing to achieve these and to ensure we deliver the quality of services that residents and businesses have come to expect.

We will continue to review our progress to ensure we remain on track to achieve our goals by 2022. We will work with our partners and our communities to focus on the things that are important to them.”

The full plan, called ‘Corporate Plan – Annual Report 2018/19’, is available to view on www.monmouthshire.gov.uk/improvement
