Showcasing the Best of Welsh Business

Conwy’s Pubs and Bars Win at Industry Awards

The Best Bar None Scheme in Conwy County Borough was celebrated for the fourth consecutive year at an awards ceremony last week at Sunnyvale Holiday Park. The aim of the initiative is to promote responsible management of licensed premises.

The scheme is supported by Conwy County Borough Council, North Wales Police, National Best Bar None and Safer Conwy. Its aim is to recognise good practice within the licensing industry in the hope that more premises will aspire to become accredited.

Accredited premises ensure a safe and enjoyable place for a night out, which is vital to the economic growth and sustainability of the region. Best Bar None rewards venues that are well managed and take customer safety seriously.

25 premises form across Conwy County successfully achieved accreditation.

Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Regulatory Services, Cllr Mark Baker said:

“Best Bar None rewards responsible licensees. The scheme encourages businesses to be an integral part of their community and recognises those licensees that go the extra mile to ensure their customers’ wellbeing.”

“The evening was very well organised and it certainly was a fitting event to recognise the hard work undertaken from within the licensed trade seeking to become accredited.”

The night’s category winners were:

  • Best Bar – The Irish Bar, Llandudno
  • Best Pub – The Town House, Llandudno
  • Best Leisure Venue – Golden Sands Holiday Park, Kinmel Bay
  • Best Community Pub – The Sun Inn, Old Colwyn
  • Overall Winner – The Town House, Llandudno

Inspector Kelly Isaacs of North Wales Police said:

“I am delighted to be involved in this national initiative to raise the profile of the need for pubs and clubs to protect the health and well-being of their customers and staff.”   Congratulations to The Town House, who overcame some strong competition from across the categories to be awarded Overall Best Premises on the night. Staff from the Town House will now be invited to a National Best Bar None reception to be held at the House of Lords in February.

The launch of the 2018 Best Bar None Scheme will announced at the end of January 2018. A raffle held on the night also raised £600 for Alzheimer’s Cymru.
