Chimney Links Developments to Start in Fishguard

Work is due to start later this week on Phase 1 of the Chimney Links development in Fishguard.

The Pembrokeshire County Council scheme aims to alleviate traffic congestion and improve public transport capabilities and safety in the town centre.

To achieve this the Council is redeveloping the site known as Chimneys adjacent to the town centre to accommodate a link road and establish a public transport focal point to potentially attract retail developers.

Fishguard_HarbourPhase 1 comprises the following works:

  • demolition of the rear function room of the Ship and Anchor pub
  • demolition of parts of the former library building attached to the Ship and Anchor
  • landscaping and construction of a car park.

Work is expected to last from eight to 10 weeks.

Atkins has been commissioned by the County Council as consultants with Alun Griffiths Ltd as contractors.

Letters, together with a plan of the Phase 1 work, have gone out to local residents and businesses informing them of the work.

The letter says:

‘As you will appreciate, this is a busy area of the town and unfortunately due to the nature of the works there may be some disruption whilst the works are in progress.

During construction the existing Co-op store and car park will remain operational and unimpeded.’

The Council has undertaken to keep disruption to a minimum.
