A well-respected legal practitioner from JCP Solicitors’ Carmarthen office has been shortlisted in the IoD Wales Director of the Year Awards 2017, which honour many of Wales’ most influential and motivational business leaders.
Richard Howells, who established JCP’s Lifetime Planning Disputes team in direct response to the needs of people who live and work in the rural communities in and around Carmarthenshire, has been shortlisted in the Young Director of the Year category.
“I am delighted to have made the shortlist in the IoD Directors of the Year Awards 2017. These awards recognise excellence in innovation, training, business growth, ethical behaviour and community engagement – all of which are priorities for me, as a Director and Head of Lifetime Planning Disputes at JCP Solicitors, and for the company as a whole.
Recommended in the ‘lawyer’s bible’, the Legal 500, for Contentious Trust and Probate Matters, Richard recognised a growing need in South and West Wales for a dedicated team which specialises in litigation for disputed Wills and Trusts and he established this team within JCP’s busy Carmarthen Office.
“This is an important area of the law and one which is of particular relevance in the rural communities served by JCP, where disputed validity of wills, proprietary estoppel, inheritance or trust claims, and claims against executors and trustees can have a marked effect upon farming families and rural businesses.
“Since heading up this team in April 2016, I have established it as a real jewel in JCP’s crown, a recognised asset to the area, and one of just two or three such specialist teams in Wales.”
Finalists in the IoD Wales Director of the Year Awards represent a range of businesses from all sectors, of all sizes and from all parts of the country and they will attend the awards final ceremony on Friday, May 19 at the SSE SWALEC in Cardiff, to celebrate their achievements.
Winners from the Welsh regional awards – which are sponsored by Cardiff Business School – are forwarded for the IoD National award, culminating in an Awards Lunch in London in the autumn.
