Cardiff businessman Dr. Richard Theo wins his second Entrepreneur of the Year accolade in just two months at the Entrepreneur Wales Awards 2015
Richard Theo, founder and MD of ActiveQuote Ltd. has been named Technology Entrepreneur of the Year at the Wales Entrepreneur Awards 2015, just weeks after being named Entrepreneur of the Year at the inaugural Cardiff Business Awards in September.
ActiveQuote Ltd. also appeared in the 2015 Wales Fast Growth 50 list, published in the Western Mail in November, as one of the fastest growing firms in Wales and was named Fastest Growing firm in Cardiff in the 2014 Fast Growth 50 Awards.
Over 300 companies entered the inaugural Wales Entrepreneur Awards, 2015, in categories that included Retail, Creative, Fashion and Manufacturing. Winners were announced at a black tie dinner at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff last Friday night.
In the Technology Entrepreneur category, Richard was up against Andy Ling of Perpetual V2G Systems, David Banner of Wales Interactive and Hugh Thomas of Ping Press for the Technology Award.
Winners were selected by a judging panel that included Caroline Challoner, MD of Cazbah Ltd., Hayley Parsons OBE, Founder and former CEO of GoCompare.com, and Welsh rugby legend Shane Williams. Event sponsors included the Welsh Government, Redrow Homes and NatWest bank.
Richard Theo is an entrepreneur with a passion and enthusiasm for technology that has driven him to establish and grow a string of successful technology-based start-up companies, including ActiveQuote, SoftSwift and Avantis Systems Ltd. Richard’s latest venture, Wealthify, is a new online service that aims to make investing accessible to everyone and is due to launch in the New Year.
Richard Theo, Managing Director at ActiveQuote said:
“To be recognised once for your hard work and effort is a thrill, to be recognised twice is a real honour and a strong endorsement of how much we have achieved with ActiveQuote in a relatively short space of time. I attribute our success in part to the support of the fantastic team of people I’m surrounded by, as well as to the supportive and creative environment the Welsh Government has made for local businesses. As the New Year approaches, I’m very excited about the launch of our latest project, Wealthify and the possibilities it might bring.”
