Leading Welsh Regional Rugby club Cardiff Blues have teamed up with new energy switching site Energy Relief, in a fundraising drive across Wales to raise £5,000 for local charities and help local people save money on their energy bills.
Energy Relief, the country’s first ever switching service that donates 100% of the switching fee they receive to charities and local projects, chosen by the switcher, has launched the fundraising drive in the lead up to an exclusive event that will take place at the BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park, on Wednesday 19th October.
A target of £5,000 has been set, which is the equivalent of 125 households or businesses switching their energy supplier through the Energy Relief website. Every time a household or business switches using Energy Relief, £40 is donated to a charity of the switchers’ choice. The average saving on Energy Relief is £353, a whole £50 more than the average season ticket at the Cardiff Blues.
The event will be attended by some of the Cardiff Blues Rugby team, with a raffle and the opportunity to win some Cardiff Blues memorabilia. Cardiff Blues will be raising money for their official charity for the 2016-17 season, Maggies, alongside Stay Strong For Ows, supported by Energy Reliefs’ sister company, amber energy.
As well as Maggies and #StayStrongForOws, Energy Relief also supports a number of other charities including Barnardo’s, the National Autistic Society and Cancer Research Wales, which switchers can choose amongst to donate their switching fee to.
Nick Proctor, Founder of Energy Relief and amber energy, said:
“We are delighted to have the Cardiff Blues on board as our official launch partner to encourage people in Wales to switch to a cheaper energy supplier and raise money for Maggies and Stay Strong For Ows; two very worthy causes which we are very proud to support, alongside our other charities.
“We encourage everyone in Wales to join in our fundraising drive. It’s simple, saves you money and supports charities. All you need to do is visit the website, compare how much money you could save by switching to another energy supplier, switch via Energy Relief and we will make a donation on your behalf to your chosen charity. It couldn’t be easier!”
Rhys Williams, Commercial Director, Cardiff Blues, said:
“We are proud to support the launch of Energy Relief, which we hope will become another great Cardiff success story.
“We call on all our supporters to visit the Energy Relief website to save cash on your energy bills and raise money for charity. By helping us reach our fundraising target by the launch event, we will be able to donate thousands of pounds to two particularly important causes: Magges, who provide much-needed support to people with cancer and Stay Strong for Ows, to help Cardiff’s Owen Williams long-term rehabilitation following his shocking injury two years ago.”
