The Welsh Government is encouraging more companies in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan to discover the benefits of exporting in 2019.
Over 44,6301 companies are registered in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, however it is only a relatively small proportion of these businesses that are part of the wider export community. Indeed, not all of these businesses would be appropriate to export, however the Welsh Government believes there are many which could start their export journey.
With this in mind Business Wales, the Welsh Government’s advisory service for businesses, believes there is plenty of scope for decision makers in companies across the region to explore the potential that exporting has to transform their business.
While many businesses across Wales have increased their sales, growth and stability by exporting to overseas markets following Welsh Government support, many don’t know where to start. And even for those that export regularly, there’s always more to know.
Welsh Government’s specialist export team work with companies on a one-to-one basis, assisting in the identification of market opportunities and actually getting to market.
Object Matrix is a Cardiff based business which provides hybrid cloud storage solutions principally to media organisations. Initially focusing solely on trade within the UK, an explosion in video content creation and distribution in 2011 saw the company diversify its offering which led to more work in overseas markets.
Its exports portfolio now accounts for 55% of its business and more than half of the company’s turnover. In the last five years, the business has more than tripled its headcount, growing its workforce from six employees to a team of 20. And the company has recently signed a five-year deal with an Emmy award-winning US TV series, as part of the company’s strategy to develop its export offering in international markets.
