Ahead of this week’s Eventagious Event Expo 2018, Business News Wales has caught-up with Marcus Gough Jones, Director at Eventagious.
He tells us what people can expect from the event at Cardiff City Stadium, this Thursday, which promises to be one not to be missed. Marcus talks about Eventagious and his plans for the future of the business. He also shares his top tips for success and what it takes to make it as a business entrepreneur.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your professional background
My name is Marcus Gough Jones and I am the Director of Eventagious. Both myself and Eventagious have won many awards, my proudest achievement being named one of the top 35 under 35 business men in Wales in 2017 by Wales Online. I previously worked for a local community group as its fundraising manager, where my role was to complete funding forms and put together fundraising events to raise enough funds to purchase a community hub. I did this for two years on a voluntary basis and then decided to set-up my own events company as I believed I had found my passion. Once I graduated from university I was never sure what exactly it was I wanted to do so after realising just how much I loved putting on events I knew that this would be a dream job, in fact I don’t see it as a job, I see it as my hobby and I think that if you enjoy your job then it will never be boring.
What is Eventagious and how is it different from others in this space?
Eventagious is an online event planning portal. Imagine the whole booking.com experience, but you are able to book your event venue, entertainment, decór and any other little extras anywhere in the country. The website has a range of different venues and event suppliers that are ready to take on your event.
You have your first big Expo on 12th July at the Cardiff City Stadium – What can exhibitors and visitors expect from the event?
The Eventagious Events Expo 2018 is going to be a very exciting and action packed day, with a celebrity compere – Cai Williams from The Voice. There will be business showcases, workshops and networking sessions for both visitors and exhibitors. People can also enjoy live music and entertainment. To finish, we are hosting an after party which is being held at the Cardiff Bierkeller (one of our amazing exhibitors). Thursday 12th July at Cardiff City Stadium is not to be missed!
What are Eventagious’ plans over the next five years?
The big plan for Eventagious is to go global. As this is the world's first online event planning portal, I honestly believe that once we hit our first country outside of the UK, the rest will follow as everyone loves a good event.
What does the future of the events space look like?
In my opinion, like everything else, events (whatever the event type) will all be planned online – hence the reason for Eventagious becoming the first online event planning portal. Before we entered the world of online, Eventagious was an everyday event management company. However, I recognised that we needed to do something completely different to make us stand out. By becoming an online business, people can now plan their own events with convenience whilst also using our trusted venues and suppliers.
What unique qualities do you think wales brings to the events sector?
Wales has the most magnificent venues for events as most of them are either Castles or venues that are surrounded by breathtaking views, which are all perfect for any event.
What do you think are the most important qualities for success in business?
In any business I believe that you always need to be focused on your end goal, never take your foot off the pedal.
What are your top three tips for success?
My top three tips for success are to have a good team, never give up even when things get tough and always help others.
And finally, What one quality does every entrepreneur need to succeed?
I believe that every entrepreneur needs to be focused and always remember no matter how successful you may become, never forget how you got there as there will be many people who help you on your journey to success.
