Bro Radio Increases Commitment to Championing Welsh Language Music

Bro Radio

Vale of Glamorgan based Bro Radio has increased its commitment to championing Welsh Language Music through its sister service Bro Radio Xtra.

After championing Welsh Language Music Day in February, the station has seen an increase in the number of Welsh tracks being sent to them for airplay.

To complement its existing Welsh language programmes and local music playlist, the station has unveiled a commitment to championing Welsh Language music through Bro Radio Xtra.

Launched in 2023 as an online service, Bro Radio Xtra provides a platform for bands and artists making music in and around South Wales. The station currently features a playlist of submissions received since its launch, which are also featured on its main radio service.

The station chose St David’s Day weekend to announce its commitment to playing two Welsh Language tracks per hour throughout the day on Bro Radio Xtra and in addition, an hour of entirely Welsh tracks each day at 10 am and 7 pm.

The playlist has been curated by volunteers who produce monthly Welsh Language programmes on the main station, available on FM, DAB+ and mobile app.

Angharad Rhiannon will continue to present a monthly Welsh Show, which has been broadcast on Bro Radio for over 10 years on the second Wednesday of each month. The show champions Welsh Language Music, Arts and Culture, whilst Y Newydd with Gareth Joy will focus on the newest Welsh Language releases on the first Thursday of each month.

“As a long-standing supporter of Welsh Language Music, I’m delighted that Bro Radio has increased its support of music being made in Welsh. This is a great platform, alongside our monthly shows for us to be able to showcase the diverse range of music being made in both languages, whilst championing up-and-coming talent. I’d encourage bands, artists and producers to submit their music for us to consider them for our playlists,” said Angharad Rhiannon, host of Bro Radio Welsh Show and Welsh Music Team member.

Bro Radio Xtra is available via the Bro Radio website and the free Bro Radio app.

Bands and artists in South Wales who wish to submit local music, in English and Welsh for consideration can email tracks and bios to music@broradio.fm
