The Hours Cafe in Brecon is set to expand its operation thanks to a microloan from Finance Wales. As a result of a five figure deal, The Hours will open a new deli in adjacent premises this summer.

The Hours Bookshop has previously benefited from Finance Wales support which enabled it to make improvements to its second floor extending their book and gift offering.

The businesses currently occupy one of Brecon’s most historic buildings – affectionately referred to as ‘the wonky green shop’. They recently won ‘Best Eating Out Experience’ at the Brecon Beacons Tourism Awards and are finalists for the second year running in The Food Awards Wales.

Bookshop owner Leigh Hendra  who opened The Hours in 2010 along with partner and cafe owner Nicola Bickerton said they were thrilled with the support they had received from Finance Wales: “Gaynor and the Finance Wales team’s expertise and advice has proved invaluable, their support will enable both businesses to evolve in a really organic way”.

Café owner Nicola said:

“The building next door to The Hours becoming available seemed like fate. We’ve had ambitions for a long time to expand and this support from Finance Wales has helped make that a reality.

“We have just taken over and started renovating the premises next door – doubling the size of The Hours. The opening of the new deli along with ongoing improvements to the bookshop will ensure we continue to be a real hub for locals and visitors alike”.

Leigh added:

“We think our continued confidence and investment in Brecon is a positive and much needed thing in what are now often very testing times for high streets and independent businesses everywhere”.

“I’m really pleased we’ve been able to support two local businesses which work so well in harmony,’ said Finance Wales Investment Executive Gaynor Morris. The investments we’ve made are enabling them to renovate and expand, offering their very popular services to an even greater number of customers. That’s great news for them and for the town of Brecon.”
