Blackwood Distribution Company Supports Local Unemployed

A warehousing and distribution company based in Blackwood has supported more than a hundred previously unemployed people into work.

Pack It, based at Newbridge Road Industrial Estate in Pontllanfraith, has been working with employability experts at Working Links to help people get back on the payroll.

Working Links has been closely supporting the company with recruitment since 2014, offering unemployed candidates work trials before placing them into their new jobs if both sides found the opportunity suitable. Most of the new recruits had been on the Work Programme and out of work for more than two years.

Working Links has also helped Pack It conduct walkthroughs of the warehouse to help candidates understand the working environment better before any work trial.

Dale Smart, Operations Manager at Pack It, said:

“I’ve worked with Working Links for about six or seven years now, in this role and my previous role. We have a very close and supportive relationship. They have taken time to understand our business and our needs and work hard to supply us with suitable candidates.”

David Challenger, Employer Services Consultant at Working Links, said:

“Pack It is a great organisation to work with, and are as committed as us in our attempt to help people get back into work. More than a hundred have found a leg back onto the employment ladder through our collaboration so far, and we’re hopeful we can support many more.”

Early recruit Samantha Williams has now been promoted to the role of Warehouse Coordinator. She said:

“I received great support to settle into the role that Working Links secured for me. Without guidance from Dave and the team I would not of be able to achieve what I have.”
