Business growth and accountancy firm Aspen Waite has successfully established a new business to service the Welsh SME market and bagged a major deal with the Cardiff Blues as they ride high this season.

Aspen Waite in Wales is providing full service financial management and accounting services in house in a deal that also includes the provision of senior practitioner for the firm Darren Talbot now acting as finance director working from the stadium offices three days’ a week.

Established at the end of 2017, Aspen Waite in Wales has been set up to respond to what it identified as a growing need for high quality, bespoke financial and business advisory services in the Wales business market.

Headed by David Scheeres, the firm already has a strong client portfolio of Welsh businesses and organisations which it is now working with to fuel growth strategies.  Services provided range from accounting and financial management to R&D tax credits and commercial acquisitions.

Commenting on the relationship between the rugby club and Aspen Waite in Wales, Cardiff Blues CEO Richard Holland said:

“Since joining the Cardiff Blues in December, Darren made an immediate impact on the running of the finance department with little hand over or prior knowledge of running a rugby club.

“He quickly became one of the team and is now an invaluable asset to the Blues.

“Some of the key work Aspen Waite has undertaken has included the streamlining of the financial processes, creating a finance function that was fit for purpose and proactively dealing with all stakeholders of the Blues, to ensure the smooth running of all rugby and non-rugby operations.

“Darren has made a positive impact in the Blues and we have been very impressed with Aspen Waite and the quality of Darren and other staff introduced.

“We now intend to set up a long-term relationship with Aspen Waite in Wales instead of employing a full time Finance Director at the Blues.”

Managing Director of Aspen Waite in Wales, David Scheeres said:

“We had a vision to create a new, contemporary financial management firm in Wales specifically for Welsh businesses as more often than not accountancy provision is very traditional.

“We take a highly holistic view of our clients’ businesses and working collaboratively and creatively to ensure that we are focused on one goal – commercial growth.

“Our partnership with the Blues is a shining example of this approach in practice – they had a need for in house support and so we have engineered a deal which has given them exactly what they need – and the amazing season they are having is testament to that!”

Aspen Waite has a growing presence in Wales and is working with clients in a range of sectors including waste, construction and sports.
