A project to support local enterprises that help people to live independently and well in their own homes and communities has been awarded LEADER funding by Arwain Sir Benfro.
Launching on Tuesday 3rd December, the ‘Building Pembrokeshire’s Capacity to Care’ project is delivered by PAVS and PLANED with support from Community Catalysts and Pembrokeshire County Council. The project supports two types of enterprise: community micro-enterprises and social enterprises.
Community micro-enterprises are small, independent care or support businesses that employ less than eight people. They can offer a wide range of services such as support to prepare meals, cleaning, companionship, accessing social groups and activities and personal care.
Social enterprises are not-for-profit businesses that reinvest the majority of their profits to achieve a social mission such as supporting people with various needs like learning disabilities or dementia. Social enterprises tend to be larger than community micro-enterprises and can apply for funding opportunities.
‘Community Catalysts’ Liz Cook and Lee James have been employed by PAVS and PLANED respectively to lead the social and community-micro-enterprise projects, supporting both new and established enterprises in setting up and developing.
The project launch is a free event in Crundale Community Hall on Tuesday 3rd December, 2.00 – 4.15pm (tea, coffee and cake from 1.30pm). The event is a chance to:
- Learn about Pembrokeshire’s vision for building a network of care and support micro-providers and the opportunities for new start-ups
- Find out about the support that is available to set up new, and develop existing, social and community micro-enterprises that support people to live independently and well in their own homes and communities
- Meet some of our existing social and community micro-enterprises and learn about the support they provide in our communities
- Help shape the future of the project by sharing your insights into the gaps and opportunities for new services in Pembrokeshire
- Network and make connections

Arwain Sir Benfro – the Local Action Group (LAG) for Pembrokeshire, administered by PLANED provided funding of £155,218 to PAVS for the Building Pembrokeshire’s Capacity to Care project. This is funded through the LEADER programme, which is part of the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014 – 2020, funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government. Match funding has been provided by the West Wales Care Partnership.
