Denbighshire County Council has welcomed the news 60 affordable homes will be built in the county.

The Council’s Planning Committee approved applications for developments in Ruthin, Denbigh and Dyserth, which will include 60 affordable homes.

Cllr Tony Thomas, lead member for Housing, Regulation and the Environment, said:

“I welcome the decisions by the Planning Committee to approve these developments.

“They will contribute to the Council’s aim to support the development of 1,000 more homes in Denbighshire with 260 of these being affordable homes.

“In addition to private developments the Council will build 170 council homes as well as working with Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) and providing more extra care housing.

“As part of our Corporate Plan we want to ensure everyone is supported to live in homes that meet their needs and we want to see more people living in their own homes for longer and more young people able to afford housing.”

The Council is also launching a plan that will bring 500 empty properties back into use for residents.

The developments approved are:

• The Old Rectory, Llanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd, Ruthin – Erection of 38 dwellings, construction of a new vehicular access, provision of open space and associated works (38 affordable units).
• Dolwar, Llanrhaeadr, Denbigh – Development of 1.2 hectares of land by the erection of 33 no. dwellings (outline application including access and layout) (3 affordable units)
• The Trefnant Inn, Trefnant, Denbigh – Erection of 13 No. affordable dwellings including access, parking and associated works (13 affordable units)
• Land off, Meliden Road, Dyserth – Erection of 61 no. dwellings, single and double garages, alterations to existing vehicular access and associated works (6 affordable units)
