The brand-new Mercure Newport hotel opened its doors in May 2022, and has been a welcome addition to residents and business of Newport in south Wales.

Conveniently located in the heart of the city centre, at the top of the historic Chartist Tower, the new Mercure Newport Hotel is perfectly placed to discover both the modern city and the surrounding Welsh countryside. Featuring contemporary bedrooms, an open plan restaurant and outdoor rooftop terrace at ‘Bar & Kitchen @NP20’, a Fitness Centre and a range of Meeting and Event spaces, the Mercure Newport is a welcome addition to the South Wales hotel, leisure and business scene.

General Manager Ceri Trela commented:

“I’m thrilled to be opening our doors to welcome guests, from near and far, to enjoy the most exciting hotel opening we’ve seen in Newport for a long time. This new 4* hotel is a major investment for both Newport and Wales as a whole, bringing tourism, business and jobs to the area, whilst providing a solution to the significant gap in the market for much needed rooms.”

She continued:

“We know Newport residents will love the new facilities and locally inspired spaces, we also hope to attract big business bookings within the sport and leisure sectors, and in doing so strengthen the region as a destination and booking choice for the future.”

Newport is a vibrant, multi-cultural city steeped in a rich industrial heritage, where traditional industries sit alongside new electronics and financial service sectors. This local heritage has been incorporated into the hotel’s design, with industrial themed accents such as the use of metal and timber materials and a contrasting colour palette of white, black and grey tones featuring throughout. The hotel has also teamed up with Welsh artist Caroline Rees to create an artwork inspired by the city’s famous Transporter Bridge as a tribute to the local area.

The hotel is situated next to Friars Walk shopping centre and just 400m – a mere seven-minute walk from Newport Train Station. It is also perfectly located for those looking to enjoy the beautiful surrounding countryside, where an abundance of walking, cycling and wellbeing opportunities can be found. In addition, there are multiple tourist attractions within easy reach, including Roman Caerleon and Tredegar House.

Guests can enjoy delicious cuisine and cocktails at the hotel’s ‘Bar & Kitchen @NP20’, offering residents and non-residents an urban all-day dining experience. The restaurant has a lively outdoor terrace area, which is perfect for cocktails with friends, pre-dinner drinks and casual dining.

The hotel has 135 spacious, contemporary and comfortable rooms with stunning views of Newport. Guests also have the option of upgrading to a luxurious junior suite where they can enjoy additional space and a range of enhanced amenities. Whilst for those looking to keep up with their fitness goals the hotel has a fully equipped gym for guests to use during their stay.

Ideal for business travellers, the hotel has five flexible meeting and event spaces, providing guests with a convenient space to meet, work and entertain. The event floor also has spacious breakout areas which are ideal for coffee and networking. Easily accessible to other major cities in the UK, the hotel is located just 1.7 miles from the M4 motorway (J25), and 29 miles from Cardiff airport. By direct train, the hotel is 1 hour 40 minutes from London, 34 minutes from Bristol and 14 minutes from Cardiff.

The Mercure Newport will follow the ALLSAFE safety standard developed by Accor in cooperation with Bureau Veritas. ALLSAFE includes heightened health and safety requirements, including protocols for sanitising and disinfecting rooms, public areas, tracking the health of guests and staff, providing disinfectants to guests, and new regulations for room service and restaurant operations. ALLSAFE standards are designed to provide guests with a safe and relaxing stay without sacrificing quality of service.
