The First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones AM officially opened the Welsh Medium Campus Y Gwyndy in Caerphilly on Wednesday 9th December.

Works began in 2012 to create a £20m teaching campus, big enough to host both Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni and Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Caerffili, centred on an elegant Grade 2 listed 1930’s Girls School building which fronts the site.

The 21st Century School has been thoughtfully designed in house by the council’s Building Consultancy team to ensure that the new buildings complement a sympathetic renovation of the listed building. The in-house team successfully collaborated with Caerphilly’s Conservation and Design Officer and CADW to ensure the renovation preserved the key features of the listed building whilst creating a 21st century teaching environment.
