Showcasing the Best of Welsh Business

4th December – Llanwrda
Is Wholecrop an Economic Alternative to Grass Silage?

Join Farming Connect to find out whether growing a wholecrop of undersown spring barley is a cost effective alternative to conventional grass silage. The project will look at all the costs involved, from cultivation costs to the financial and nutritional benefits of the silage and ryegrass ley that remains. Silage specialist Dave Davies, will be comparing different nutritional value of silage and discussing how you can get the most out of growing silage and provide the right quality for your livestock.

There will be:

  • Comparison of financial costs
  • Comparison of nutritional value of silage and following ley
  • Analysis of any economic and / or nutritional benefits

Welsh Water will also be attending to talk about their rush control and weed wiper scheme that they have been promoting in the Towy, Teifi and Upper Wye river catchments.
