Carmathenshire council is urgently seeking up to 300 cleaning staff for schools and council buildings in Carmarthenshire as it plans for the re-opening of schools and other services as part of its ongoing response to the coronavirus.

Temporary cleaners are desperately needed in a number of areas including Ammanford, Carmarthen, Cross Hands, Garnant, Glanamman, Kidwelly, Laugharne/Pendine, Llandeilo, Llandovery, Llanelli, Llanybydder/Llanllwni, Newcastle Emlyn, Pencader, St Clears, Tumble and Whitland.

Last week Education Minister Kirsty Williams announced that schools in Wales will start the next phase on June 29 so that all children will have the opportunity to ‘Check in, Catch Up, Prepare for summer and September’.

Hours of work will be shifts operating between 9am and 7pm and some flexibility can be provided. People will be expected to provide a high standard of service to ensure safe and hygienic areas.

Experience and knowledge of Health and Safety would be advantageous. Full training will be provided.

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be requested for this post.

Deputy Leader Cllr Mair Stephens, executive board member for recruitment and training, said: “We are urging people who are in a position to apply, especially those living in communities near schools or buildings, to contact us. Roles will require flexibility in terms of location and hours worked, which could include early mornings and evenings, and full training will be given.  The cleaning service plays a key part in keeping people safe during this pandemic and provides an essential service throughout the County of Carmarthenshire.”
