Description

This year’s annual St David’s Day lunch will see us welcome not just one but two guest speakers as well as a very well-known master of ceremonies to the Parc y Scarlets in Llanelli on Friday 1st March. As well as the usual networking opportunities and chance to hear from top quality speakers, the lunch will serve as a joint fundraising opportunity with proceeds raised on the day being split between our President’s nominated charity, the RNLI and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

The first guest speaker at our lunch is Sean Taylor, co-founder of Wales’ hugely successful and popular tourist attraction, Zip World. Our second speaker is a true Welsh legend and former coach of the national rugby side, Gareth Jenkins.

Sean Taylor will talk about the journey he has been on as the co-founder of the hugely popular tourist attraction Zip World. The business runs adventure experiences in three locations across Snowdonia, one of which features the world’s fastest zip line, and attracts over 400,000 visitors per year, generating revenues of more than £14m.

Sean spent his early years as a Royal Marines Commando and celebrity bodyguard before returning home to pursue his dream of bringing extraordinary adventures to the masses. Through his three adventure attractions he has achieved this and they have even been visited by the likes of ‘Ant and Dec’ and BBC’s ‘The One Show’. The business has been on a steep upward curve since it was founded five years ago and is now set to continue its expansion thanks to an investment from private equity investor LDC, who recently valued the business at £45m.

Gareth Jenkins spent his entire playing career with Llanelli RFC and was part of the historic side that famously beat the All Blacks 9-3 at Stradey Park in 1972. He went on to coach Llanelli for 24 years and became the head coach of the newly formed Scarlets in 2003 where he would serve until 2006. He was a part of Clive Woodward’s coaching staff on the British and Irish Lions tour of New Zealand in 2005 and in 2006 became the head coach of the Welsh national team, leading them through 2007 Six Nations and to the World Cup in France.

In more recent years he has served as ‘Head of Player Development and Recruitment’ at the Scarlets and helped to develop current Welsh superstars including Jonathan Davies, Ken Owens, Scott Williams and Samson Lee.

Our master of ceremonies for the afternoon will be none other than local favourite, Kev Johns MBE. Kev wears many hats throughout the Swansea Bay City Region including hosting the breakfast show on Swansea Sound, starring in the annual Swansea Pantomime at Christmas and being the official chaplain for Swansea City FC. He was awarded an MBE from Her Majesty The Queen for his services to charity in Wales.

Our St David’s Day lunch promises to be one of our biggest and best celebration events of recent years. The event will finish at around 4:30 pm.
