A family-run butchers which has sold quality, locally sourced meat produce to the Hay-on-Wye community for the last 33 years, is set to triple in size after obtaining funding from NatWest.

C.J.Gibbons Family Butchers has completed the purchase of a new retail space on Castle Street, just a few doors down from its current premises, thanks to a £390,000 business loan from NatWest. The deal was brokered by Brightstar Financial.

The premises will undergo a complete refit and refurbishment and the space will be used to expand the product range available to customers, as well as incorporate a deli and bakery area.

Geraldine Like took over as owner of C.J.Gibbons Family Butchers five years ago. Her father Christopher Gibbons founded the business in 1984, employing just one member of staff.

A growing business, which now employs four members of staff, it will create an additional four new jobs when the new store opens in March 2018.

Geraldine said:

“The core focus of our business is the quality of our produce, which is all locally sourced, but we’ve also diversified our offering with baked goods and a deli counter.

“We’ve seen a massive increase in customers, which means we now need a bigger retail space. Thanks to financial backing from NatWest we’ve found the perfect premises to accommodate our growing needs.”

NatWest Relationship Manager, Mark Eckley, said:

“C.J.Gibbons is a great example of a family business which is expanding its offering to meet customer demand and as a result, is creating new jobs in the local area.”
