MHR, a provider of human capital solutions, has announced it’s to visit Wales to help get companies ready for the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The GDPR law, which is set to come into effect on May 25th 2018, is the biggest change in the way organisations manage personal data since the Data Protection Act of 1998.
If companies fail to abide by this new law, they could face fines of up to €20million or 4% of their global turnover. This means they need to get everything in order before GDPR comes into force.
Research from over the past few months suggests that companies are underestimating the impact of this new law and are inadequately prepared, meaning they could face big fines.
A recent survey of heads of HR, payroll managers and directors carried out by MHR to determine GDPR readiness revealed that 68 per cent of respondents have not received any GDPR awareness training.
As well as this, a further 53 per cent haven’t appointed a data privacy officer, which is a mandatory obligation for some companies. There’s also a predicted shortage of suitable candidates.
The company is bringing its roadshow of GDPR workshops to Jurys Inn, Cardiff, on September 20th. It’ll be hosted by the firm’s quality and data privacy manager Claire Wright.
This workshop will debunk the common myths surrounding GDPR and provide practical support and advice to delegates on key areas of GDPR, including the implications on HR and payroll as well as the legal basis for data processing, data retention and data security.
