Solar Buddies, the child friendly, mess-free sunscreen applicators invented by two Welsh mums, will be stocked in premium baby store JoJo Maman Bébé for the second year running.

JoJo Maman Bébé, which has its headquarters in Newport, was the first major high street retailer to stock Solar Buddies in 2016 and has committed to stocking the product again this year.

Kelli Aspland and Laura Griffin, who between them have seven children, devised the Solar Buddies after expressing concerns about how their children were protecting themselves against the sun during school hours. They also knew that some schools had “no touch” policies and wanted to come up with a solution to allow children to apply sunscreen independently, and so Solar Buddies were born.

Kelli and Laura are delighted that the Solar Buddies will be stocked for the second year running.

Kelli explained:

“We are over the moon that the team at JoJo believe in the Buddies and are going to continue stocking them in their stores and online. We are thrilled that JoJo has been a part of our story so far.”

Solar Buddies has also had the backing of another successful Welsh entrepreneur. Former CEO and founder of Gocompare.com, Hayley Parsons OBE, has invested in the company and is mentoring Kelli and Laura.

The Solar Buddy product has won numerous awards and received great feedback from customers – as well as making sure your little one is safe in the sun, the Solar Buddy allows you apply sunscreen without getting in a mess – a feature that is loved by mums across the UK, and further afield. The company has also broken into the international market this year, with a number of orders being placed from the US.

Laura Griffin added:

“This is a wonderful opportunity to take Solar Buddies worldwide, and we are really pleased that parents and teachers in the states are starting to get involved. We can’t wait to see people across the pond using the Buddies this summer.”
