martin-firmanA former police inspector turned entrepreneur is helping Wales businesses show their personalities with a novel reviews widget.

Martin Firman says bespoke invention Review Biz provides ‘the most effective marketing SMEs can do,’ due to its focus on their own individual brand – and the impact the widget is having on businesses he works with in Wales is testament to this.

Martin, who has so far attracted clients in Monmouth, Chepstow and Abergavenny, launched Review Biz in 2015 after realising that larger review websites concentrate too much on their own brand, rather than the client’s, and that the drive to generate hundreds of reviews doesn’t work for many local enterprises.

“These days, the usual marketing blurb just isn’t enough,” says Martin, who served in the Bedfordshire police force before switching to the corporate world 20 years ago. “As well as reading what a company says about their product or service, we also want to know what their customers say. Customer reviews tell the real story and bring a brand to life.

“Research tells us that 80% of customers want to see reviews before taking action. There are lots of review websites out there but many of the larger review websites are all about volume, which engenders a competitive mindset involving comparison. Yet small businesses are about values, ethos and delivery, regardless of the number of customers you have. With Review Biz, everything is done through your website, ensuring that the focus is entirely where is should be – on you and your business. It’s about your brand, not ours.”

Client Lesley Ball, who runs Ty Cae PA and Office Services, says:

“The Review Biz team designed the widget to match the colours on my website and I’m delighted with it. They could not have been more helpful in explaining the simple procedure involved in uploading reviews. I strongly believe that good client reviews are an essential component for a successful business and the Review Biz widget makes the entire process incredibly easy – all I need to do is ask a client to visit my website and click on the widget to write a review. All business owners are aware of the importance of customer reviews and at last there is a simple way to gather and promote them in one easy step thanks to Review Biz.”

Review Biz invites customers to write reviews – which take one minute – and notifies the client when a review on their website goes live. Benefits for the client include a boost to search rankings, automated posts sent to Facebook and Twitter and the chance to get in touch with the customer, either online or in person, to say thank you or to discuss issues. All reviews are subject to a strict validation and moderation process, so there are no risks involved, and are displayed in date order, with the newest at the top.

“The business has gone from strength to strength since we launched it 15 months ago, with clients telling us they love it as it quadruples the average number of reviews they get,” says Martin, who now plans to expand further into Wales. “99.9% of reviews are 4 or 5 star and we’ve had no inappropriate comments. The reviews are good for rankings and they demystify some businesses by showing the scope of what they do or simplifying something that a potential customer might have otherwise thought too techy.”

Review Biz, which is fully compatible with smartphones and tablets, costs £22.50 per month. The company also offers a video testimonial package for £45 per month.
