Multi award winning construction specialist Andrew Scott Ltd is pleased to announce that they are still on track to finish the major renovation project to enhance the Port Talbot based Green Park Weir site. Work began late September 2016 with an ambitious eight-month turnaround earmarked but the project itself is the result of several years of collaboration and investment between members of the River Afan Water Management Group.
The Group, who have been working closely with Andrew Scott throughout the renovation to ensure sustainable natural resource management on-site, spent years liaising with key stakeholders, including Associated British Ports (ABP), Natural Resources Wales (NRW), Tata Steel (UK) Ltd, Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, and the Afan Valley Angling Club.
“We are extremely excited to be involved in a complex project which is a critical artery feeding both Tata and ABP dock” said Mark Bowen, Managing Director at Andrew Scott Ltd.
In addition to leading improvement works on the weir, which sits on the River Afan, the project has also been designed to strengthen it, a move that will deliver a number of advantages to the community that surrounds it. Water management systems will be dramatically enhanced meaning increased water security for local businesses and the safeguarding of future generations.
The migratory fish stocks will also benefit with improvement works allowing for easier passage, better conditions and the development of sustainable fish populations. Whilst work is underway, it is important to note the complexity of the project as the rebuilding of the weir will depend on the river flows and flows to nearby docks.
“Andrew Scott are a long established local company employing personnel from and around the surrounding area, and we are pleased to support the local economy and business in delivering this project,” concluded Mark.
