Penarth based Motts Insurance, one of the longest running Insurance brokers in Wales, considers the insurance cover Father Christmas will need when delivering presents throughout Wales this year.
What type of insurance might Father Christmas need?
Well to start with he’s Non-standard home insurance
While Father Christmas journeys around Wales, he leaves behind his six-bedroom, timber, detached, Grade I listed home in the North Pole, which needs adequate protection.
He will need Employer’s liability insurance
A merry workforce made up of 200 elves, Father Christmas is responsible for protecting their health and wealth. If an elf incurred injury, whilst hammering a wooden toy, Santa would ultimately be held responsible.
Commercial property insurance
Santa’s toy workshop, where the magic takes place, needs round the clock cover in case of theft, fire and flood
With eight working reindeer to get the sleigh moving, it’s important they are all in tip top health. If one or more were sick, this could be very costly for Father Christmas with the increasing rates for vet bills.
Commercial vehicle insurance with goods in transit
As he flies around Wales on his sleigh there is a risk of something happening such as a bump with a house, plane or shooting star, he’d need to make sure he could pay for any damage. He would also need to cover the cargo of toys he in case of theft or damage.
With so many mince pies, the big man may get stuck in a chimney, or cover a carpet with soot. lf he ruined any contents or caused any damage, he would need to have this cover or else he will foot the bill for all that soot!
Ben Mott, managing director of Motts Insurance commented
“As you can see insuring Father Christmas PLC would be a tall order and that’s without looking at his legal cover, professional indemnity and business interruption and business travel insurance.”
Later in the new year Motts Insurance will be looking for a business referral to the easter bunny who they believe has similar requirements.
