The team behind the campaign to bring the UK City of Culture to St Davids and the Hundred of Dewisland in 2021 is appealing for people to get behind the bid by joining the campaign on social media and attending a series of public events.

Plans for a year-long programme of major cultural events are currently being made as the deadline for the first stage of the process nears. The bid will showcase home-grown talent and will attract international performers in order to draw visitors from around the world and millions of pounds of investment to the local economy.

Mike Cavanagh, Head of Cultural Services at Pembrokeshire County Council, said:

“Although small in scale compared with the other bidding cities, this area of Pembrokeshire punches way above its weight in terms of culture and heritage.

“While there is not a public vote, it is a competition and to win we are going to need the support of everyone in St Davids and Pembrokeshire.

“We need input from as many people as possible, be it through attending our public events to contributing your ideas, or simply liking and sharing our posts on social media and spreading the word.

“This is a unique opportunity to show the rest of the UK and the world the incredible culture and unique landscape of St Davids and the surrounding area, which local people value so highly and so many visitors travel long distances to enjoy each year.”

The Pembrokeshire bid is one of eleven from across the United Kingdom with seven from England, two from Scotland and one other from Wales.

To show your support for the bid, like the campaign Facebook page www.facebook.com/StDavids2021 or follow @StDavids2021 on Twitter. You can also share your ideas with the bid team via these social media channels.

Also look out on social media for opportunities to win great prizes with competitions supported by local businesses including afternoon tea at Crug Glas Country House and a luxury hotel stay at Twr y Felin.

If you would like to discuss the bid in person, a public engagement session will be held in Solva Memorial Hall on Wednesday 19 April from 7pm-9pm.
